Why does the spring tension have to be readjusted every year?

When installing your sectional garage door, the fitter will ensure that the springs have the correct tension. But, with use, the strength of the torsion springs will decrease.

In tradesmen parlance this is referred to as “spring relaxation”. As the torsion springs are the ones that counterbalance the weight of your garage door, it is essential that they are readjusted on a regular basis if your garage door is to remain in balance.

When operated manually, the door will open far easier, requiring little effort from the user. In the case of an electrically operated door, the correct spring tension will actually extend the lifespan of the motor.

L-Door recommends that you have the spring tension readjusted every year.
